Low Force to High Force 

Description - A must do, taking in two of Englands most spectacular waterfalls, a slight detour up to Gibsons Cave is also well worth a visit. High Force Hotel offers a welcome refreshments stop to at the half way point.
Start Point - Bowless Visitor Centre
Length - 4 miles

Barnard Castle to Cotherstone Circular

Description - A lovely river walk following the Teesdale way from Barnard Castle to the beautiful Cotherstone, a quaint dales village complete with pubs, a community run cafe.
Start Point - Barnard Castle 
Length - 8 miles

Barnard Castle to Egglestone Abbey

​Description - Starting from Barnard Castle follow the river downstream, you'll reach Abbey bridge and the magnificent ruins. A wonderful place for a picnic at any time of year.
Start Point -Barnard Castle 
Length - 3.75 miles

Middleton to Barnard Castle Railway Walk 

Description - For this walk its worth getting the bus to Middleton in Teesdale, from here the old railway line has become a treasure bridleway weaving its way down through the village all the way back to Barnard Castle, stop in either Mickleton, Romaldkirk or Cotherstone for refreshments

The Low Force to High Force route is one of the most visited.  
Are there easy walks near Barnard Castle?
Yes, there are several short riverside walks suitable for all abilities. Flatts woods provides a number of short trails from the town centre
How long is the Teesdale Way?
The full route spans over 90 miles, but shorter sections can be enjoyed.

Is Teesdale good for Hill Walking?
​
Although we recommend primarily valley walks above there's no shortage of hill and moorland walks to choose from, the walk from Cow Green reservoir to High Cup Nick at the top of Teesdale is a spectacular day out.
